All about Bryngwyn Service Station

Bryngwyn Service Station has been established for over 50 years. It was set up in the 1970s and to this day remains a family business in Blackwood.

It’s now run by Michael, who took the garage over from his father in the late 1990s, and where he heads up an eight-strong team of mechanics who all share the family’s business values:

Not only are we one of the oldest and most trusted independent garages in south Wales. We’re also renowned as far afield as Cardiff, Newport and Barry. Customers from miles around travel to us with their cars and commercial vehicles (up to 3.5t) because they know we’ll treat their vehicle as if it were our own.

Established over 50 years!

After doing some research with my family this week we have realised that the garage has now been open for 50 years. I can’t give an exact date but my family first opened it in 1972. Back then the business was operating as a petrol station with a body shop as my dad was a trained panel beater and sprayer, in the 80s my sisters worked part-time on the petrol pumps and my mother in the shop.

The garage has changed its vision a few times over the years, moving into MOTs and repairs in the 80s to then include servicing in the 90s which saw the end of the petrol station. In 2001 my dad and mum went part-time, eventually retiring to spend many happy years away in their camper van which they still enjoy now. The 2000s saw the end of the body shop and Bryngwyn Service Station dealing solely with car servicing, MOTs and maintenance. Now in 2022 vehicles have become much more complicated so the garage is equipped to deal with engine management systems, electric vehicles and electrical problems as well as servicing, MOTs and general repairs.

Throughout these times we have always had a fantastic loyal customer base and without them, we would not be here today. Also, we have been blessed with some amazing staff members over the years past and present. Here’s to many more years at Bryngwyn Service Station!
